To the Coleman Family:
As you know, Jerry was a very special person. His passing will be felt by all who knew him. Jerry experienced first hand the discrimination and ill will the department leadership had to offer. Desite all the trials and tribulations he kept his head high and moved forward. It's sad that so few learned anything from him.
Jerry... "10-16 with God for a briefin..K". He's got some blessing for you.
May you all find peace and tranquility during these trying times.

To the Coleman family; Jerry was my first Training.Officer., He really was a man of great wisdom and compasion, he always offered his words of wisdom, and like any new guy I truley understood his intentions as I grew in to the "JOB". He was the kind of man who knew by instinct the real intent of people an transmitted this to you in only the way Jerry could "I KNOW THE DEAL".
God bless you all, he is truly missed and I will remember him always as the gentleman he was.

Although Jerry and I were always at philosophical odds with how to conduct police business; in a pinch he was always great back-up -- ready to help and had "no qualms" with providing the occasional Sup. IR -- albeit brief.
Jerry was always good natured, funny and fun to work with even though we were all "left legged" in his eyes. I'm certain that all who knew and loved him have nothing but fond memories and will miss him dearly.
Hey Jerry: They didn't move Hoboken, it's still in the same place.

Dear Coleman Family,
I met Jerry for the first time in 1983, when I joined NJTPD. I am so privilaged to have known him. As a rookie one of the biggest things he taught me was that I needed to stay calm and "cool" in any situation. He had a remarkable way of living what he taught. I miss him, already!!!

Unfortunately I did not have the opportunity to meet Lt. Coleman as I started my career at NJTPD after he retired. However, I have heard many stories of what a good man he was and how he was respected by those who worked with him and for him. I wish the Coleman family my condolences during this difficult time and know that Lt. Coleman's memory is alive and well here at the NJTPD as those who worked with him continue to share their memories of him with those of us who did not have the opportunity to do so.

To the Coleman family, my condolences for your loss. Only a small handful of people could lift the spirits of many on a daily basis. Jerry was one of those few. Words can?t explain how much fun it was to work with him. He just had a way with people that seems to be a lost art. His legacy will live on forever with the members of the New Jersey Transit Police Department. God Bless.

Brother Jerry, "all you ever left me ..was alone".
How many times we passed that silly phrase between us. Now it's come to pass.
Thanks for the memories Jerry. For 30 years we shared that common bond.
The good times, the bad ones, the tears and the laughter. But mostly the laughter.. how we laughed ! That's how I'll remember you Jerry .. in better times, with that big, bright smile of yours.

I once read a poem titled "THE DASH". It made reference to our tombstone. What really mattered was how we spent the time between those dates THE DASH Well, I think Jerry read the same poem. He would be proud of what we say about how he spent his "dash". He was not quick to judge and often wore a smile for us all. I worked for Jerry and he'll remain a special "dash". Thanks for the memories and sharing them with me.

Brother Jerry
You made life at NJ Transit PD bearable. You never let them get to you. You provided strength with compassion, courage with conviction, and kindness with laughter and your smile. You showed your fellow railroad cops how to treat people with respect whether they were an unfortunate homeless individual or a prestigious lawyer. You will be sadly missed, both as a mentor and a friend.
God bless you.
