Obituary of Terry A. Furnell

75, of Clearwater, FL, passed away quietly Dec.15 2012 at his home with his wife of 28 years by his side. His love of life, curious nature, taking on challenges, adventurous spirit and search for knowledge has lead him to many careers and life experiences. In 1949, he began his first business as a shoeshine boy in Tampa, FL, and from there became a college electrician, school bus driver, bulldozer operator, mullet fisherman, ordained minister, co-owner of Eastern Energy Oil & Gas, real estate broker in North Carolina, and land man for S&A Property Research in West Virginia, just to name a few. He became an Eagle Scout in 1951. A graduate of Stetson University College of Law, he was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1964 and was admitted to practice with the United States Supreme Court in 1965. His years as a Criminal Defense Lawyer doing trial work were his ties to Pinellas Co. He defended each of his clients with vigor, determination and won cases thinking outside the box. With a lifetime passion for reading and knowledge he was fortunate to live during the age of the internet. He called it his card to the world's largest library. His greatest passion was living life to the fullest. His humor, charm and quick wit were just the right touches to sharing great jokes and stories. He loved convertibles and found his red '89 Mustang perfect for evening rides. He was fortunate to travel the U.S. in an RV for 3 yrs. Love of desserts would be an understatement and spending time with family and friends was "priceless". He leaves behind his loving family including: wife, Brenda; son, Tim (Linda); son, Dennis (Lisa); granddaughter, Janie; two great grandsons; sister-in-law, Melody (Grant) Raetz; nephew, Ryan; longtime friends, Vickie and Dave Ullman; and his special feline companion Molly P. He will be lovingly remembered by many friends and colleagues. A Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of the family and guests. In lieu of flowers please give to your local Humane Society.
