Obituary of Mary Dalton Pump

Mary Dalton Pump, a retired insurance claims adjuster, bookkeeper and mother, died on Friday, September 14th at the age of 91 after suffering a broken hip and stroke. Mary was born and raised in Lincoln, Nebraska to parents Loraine Hempel and Bernard Vincent Dalton. Mary graduated from the University of Nebraska with a Bachelors Degree in political science where she was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa honorary society. She started her career with Liberty Mutual as a claims adjuster and later worked at General Electric in Schenectady, NY as the social director. Mary married Robert F. Pump of Schenectady, NY and assisted in the family Datsun/Nissan dealership as the company's bookkeeper until both retired to Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club in St. Petersburg, FL. While retired, Mary spent 10 years volunteering at Suncoast Hospice. Mary was predeceased by her husband Robert F. Pump, son Robert F. Pump, Jr., daughter Mary Alice Niclas. Mary is survived by her son, Bernard J. Pump of Chicago, IL, her daughter, Elise L. Pump of St. Petersburg, FL, grandchildren Rachel, Ryan and Megan Pump of Chicago, IL, Morgan, Sydney and Carter Munderback of St. Petersburg, FL, Laurie Messinger, Christine McCrary, Robert Pump, Noelle Frank and Trisha DeLuke and their children as well as several nieces, nephews and their families. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 22nd at College Harbor at 4600, 54th Street South from 2:30-4:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to The Hospice of the Suncoast whose staff made Mary comfortable in the last few days of her life.
