Obituary of Roy Alexander Moore

Roy Alexander Moore, 87 of South Pasadena, Florida peacefully departed into Heaven on May 21st surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 13, 1924 in Fort William, Ontario, Canada to Russell R. Moore and Rose A. Moore (Sigmundur), he grew up in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where he met his high school sweetheart, Phyllis E. Moore. They were married on June 16, 1945, for 67 years by 2012. He is predeceased by his mother and father, "Dinty" and Rose Moore of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan and his grandson, Randy Moore of Calgary, Alberta. He is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis Moore, his sister, Blanche and "Chick" (deceased) Cave in Edmonton, Alberta, and his brother Harold and Jo Moore of San Antonio, Texas, his son Ron and Lynn Moore and grand-daughter Allison Moore of Calgary, Alberta, and his daughter Marilyn Moore of Toronto, Ontario. He is also survived and loved by many nieces, nephews and loved ones: Brenda and John Etlinger of San Antonio; Robert and Sharon Moore of Pass-a-Grille, Florida; Rusty and Deborah Moore of Highlands, Texas; Dick and Sandy Cave of White Rock, British Columbia; Bernice and Mick Rempel of Edmonton, Alberta; Donna and Norm Parry of Victoria, British Columbia; Shelly and Ray of Vancouver, British Columbia; Lynne Larson of Oswego, Oregon; Norma Jean Larson of San Lorenzo, California; Kathy and Bob Logan of Gabriola, British Columbia; Patti and Greg Ballantyne of Vancouver, British Columbia; Steve Shail of Winnipeg, Manitoba; Elaine and Chester Cowley of Calgary, Alberta; and Jarvis and Eldon (deceased) Shail of Hythe, Alberta. Roy began his career in Alberta and the Northwest Territories with a seismic exploration crew in the petroleum business. He and Phyllis left Canada in 1947 to commence their international life in 1947 to pursue exploration and development in arid deserts lands of Peru and the tropical rainforest jungles of Colombia in South America. Next came the vast Saharan of North Africa and the far east and the Malaysian peninsula. He retired from ExxonMobil in 1979 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Roy and Phyllis pursued their retired life with travels to the far east and South America with homes in Victoria, British Columbia and South Pasadena, Florida. Roy was a man of great strength and determination, filled with a gentle and compassionate kindness. His most frequent saying was: "When people are hurting, love them even more". He was a man of great integrity, with a passionate love for his family. Roy had the gift of an enquiring mind and was a voracious reader of history, science and technology. Those who met and loved Roy were drawn to his kindness, gentility, his wish to always do the right thing, the welcoming glint in his eyes and his storytelling. He will be deeply missed by all those who love him. The Funeral Service will be held at the A Life Tribute Chapel at 5601 Gulfport Boulevard at 6:00 PM, Friday, May 25, 2012. There will be a gathering of friends at the Clubhouse of Pasadena Cove, 1316-1324 Pasadena Avenue South following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Salvation Army at 2 Wintergreen Drive, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan S6J 1M9.
