Obituary of Emmett Dean Turner III

Born March 24,1947 in Akron, OH and passed away March 9, 2024 at home in Seminole, FL.

Dean was the son of the late E. Dean Turner Jr. and Nancy Turner. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved son Emmett Dean Turner IV, “Deanie”. He is survived by his brother Tim Turner and sister-in-law Marcia Turner of Redington Beach, FL; and his sister Dawn Krebs and brother-in-law Steve Krebs of Seminole, FL. He had 5 nephews & nieces, 4 in Coshocton, OH, 1 in Chicago, IL. Dean graduated from Coshocton High School and was a member of the Phi Kappa Tau fraternity at Ohio University. After that he served in the US Army for 2 years with an honorable discharge.

Dean ran the family Dean’s Jewelry store in Zanesville for several years while living in Nashport, OH. His son was raised there, and he was very active in the Dresden community serving as Commander of the American Legion.

In 2003 , Dean received the Jefferson Award (an award for ordinary people doing extraordinary things) in Columbus, OH. He was nominated by many grieving parents who received his tireless and highly personal comfort, hope, and support through his work as director of Compassion Friends Nonprofit Org. in Columbus, OH.

He was an avid reader with an insatiable thirst for knowledge. He could converse with anyone on most any topic. Always up for a few laughs his lifelong friends will attest that as much fun as he was, he was loyal and always there if you needed him. We are most proud of our big brother for the way he lived with a grief that no parent should endure, and used that grief to help so many people. He is missed beyond measure.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 13, 2024 from 4 to 6 pm at the Coshocton Elks Lodge. Donations may be made to Compassionate Friends Columbus, OH at compassionatefriends.org or American Foundation for Suicide Prevention at afsp.org
