Obituary of Laura Jones Jackson
A BEAUTIFUL VOICE WITH A FLAIR FOR HIGH FASHION
Laura Jones Jackson, 73, passed away at home in St. Petersburg, FL on January 31, 2023. She was the beloved daughter of the late Major Jones Bond Jackson, USAF and the late Barbara Rice Jackson Herndon of Inverness, FL.
Her childhood was spent with family in Japan where her father was stationed during the American Occupation of Japan. Laura is remembered by friends as a great lover of animals; especially horses, which she rode and trained at her stepfather’s horse farm in Stratham, NH.
Laura attended the Dana Hall School in Wellesley, MA, Rollins College in Winter Park, FL and graduated from Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, NH, majoring in music and
veterinary science. She was blessed with a professionally trained contralto voice which blended well with various church and school choirs.
Her professional life included work in the fast paced world of fashion at Elle Magazine
and as an advertising/promotion executive at Hachette Filipacchi Media in New York City, representing clients such as Alexander Julian and Liz Claiborne. Laura also directed nationwide fashion shows, some of which were sponsored by pageants owned by Donald Trump.
In later life she enjoyed watercolor painting, cooking and antiquing in St. Petersburg, FL. Laura lived overlooking Mirror Lake in downtown St. Pete for fifteen years. She is survived by her sister Paula Rice Jackson, a Director of the United Nations Association of New York, a stepbrother Jonathan Herndon of Ossipee, NH and her beloved cat “Gypsy”..
A private interment in New Hampshire is planned later in the spring.
