Obituary of Lourdes Martin De Herrera

Lourdes Martin De Herrera, age 62, of Tampa, passed away September 7, 2022. She was born in 1960 and raised in Havana, Cuba. She met the love of her life, Eladio, at a family party at the age of 16 and would dedicate her entire life to her marriage, faith and her children. Eladio would say that being embraced and accepted by Lourdes was the greatest blessing ever bestowed upon him.

Lourdes made the best flan the family and community of Tampa ever tasted. With her witty humor and occasionally well-placed curse word in Spanish, she made her family laugh endlessly. Lourdes had a personality as sweet as her flan but had a spicy side when it came to defending her family, as they always came first. She was the first person to serve food, and the last person to eat. Her amazing food was not limited to her family - she volunteered her time and skills for anyone in need. Lourdes remained gentle through a life that was not always gentle to her. No matter how many battles she lost, she never lost her faith.

In addition to cooking, she was a talented poet and skilled at crochet. Lourdes passed along her love of writing and crafting to her granddaughter, Karina. Amazingly resourceful and creative, Lourdes was the MacGyver of the family and could find a solution for any problem.

Lourdes was preceded in death by her parents, Horatio and Loida. She is survived by her chi chi, Eladio, husband of 44 years; her children and grandchildren.

The family will celebrate Lourdes' life at a later date, organized by Mariana and Karina.

Psalm 23:

God, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing.

You have bedded me down in lush meadows,

you find me quiet pools to drink from. True to your word,

you let me catch my breath and send me in the right direction.

Even when the way goes through Death Valley,

I’m not afraid when you walk at my side.

Your trusty shepherd’s crook makes me feel secure.

You serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies.

You revive my drooping head; my cup brims with blessing.

Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life.

I’m back home in the house of God for the rest of my life.
