Claudia Herring

Obituary of Claudia Herring

Claudia (Semec) Herring passed peacefully in her home in Palm Harbor, Florida on the evening of August 5, 2021; she was 98.  Claudia was born in Trieste, Italy on March 10, 1923.  She met James Herring while he was stationed in Trieste as a member of the U.S. Army following World War II.  On January 29, 1952 they were married and in June of that year they took ship for the U.S.

Claudia loved tending to her garden, was a talented knitter and seamstress.  She could make magic with anything.  She loved cooking and was always happy to share her techniques with others.  A welcoming soul to all with whom she came in contact, she had a lust for life and a smile that would light up the room.  Her generosity was endless, her spirit so grand.  Most of all, Claudia treasured, loved and was devoted to her family near and far.

She is survived by her husband of 69 years, James Herring, daughters Elda Eckles, Ileana Laila Montagnani (Fausto) and Claudette Herring (Lauren Phillips), granddaughter Erin Eckles McEvoy (Ronan) and great-grandchildren Mackenzie Claudia and Colin William.  She is also survived by her sister Iole Semez and many nieces and nephews in Italy.
