Obituary of Rowland "Bunker" Hill

Rowland J. “Bunker” Hill, 63, of Clearwater, FL passed away unexpectedly at his home on March 16th, 2024. Born and raised in Cincinnati, OH, Bunker graduated from Finneytown High School and continued on to Ohio State University. Bunker lived in several cities, but loved Chicago, Cleveland, Cincinnati, and Puerto Vallarta, Mexico the most. He was preceded in death by his parents Rowland “Jim” and Barbara Hill. Bunker is survived by his sister, Marjorie (Mark) Putman; nieces Sarah Putman, Alison (Liam) Gambill, and Abigail Putman; great nephews Logan and Greyson Gambill, Aston “Ace” Martin, and great niece Charlotte “Chuck” Gambill. He is also survived by his best friend from birth who has been like his brother, Dr. Howard (Vickie) Mertz and their children Abby and Macy whom he considered nieces. Bunker was a larger than life personality, with a booming voice, who never knew a stranger. He was an early adopter of the Craft Beer phenomenon and travelled around the country trading local beers with friends he made along the way. He was also a huge sports fan who loved all of the Cleveland and Chicago teams. A caring and compassionate friend, Bunker had many causes close to his heart and he supported them with his presence at events and donations of items from his vast beer collection.
