My husband John and I knew Jon and Vero for around 24 years here in Arlington and are truly devastated by the loss of such a wonderful friend. Jon was always warm and welcoming, and ever so much fun to be around, whether here in Arlington or Great Falls as well as time spent together in Florida.
I highlight the word fun because his quick wit always kept us laughing. He was so intelligent in the most thoughtful and often thought provoking way.
We all shared the love of cooking and fine foods and enjoyed so much sharing recipes and dinners - and as well, a love of sports and cycling, to ward off any excess pounds picked up along the way.
We wish he could have lived forever. Life is paler without him.
Love always to you, dear Jon and family.
Please let us know if services are planned in the DC Area.

I et John only recently through Margo and a dinner or two or for a cocktail
I called him the bike man based on his stories
He was a gentle sol, calm in demeanor and a good listener
I was looking forward to getting to know him
I feel blessed to have gotten opportunity though short

Jon was the best. The absolute best. We met through mutual friends and instantly became friends ourselves. Jon was warm, smart, funny, irreverent, opinionated and wickedly fun. He was always curious and quick to see the silliness in life. He loved meeting new people and people loved meeting him. He and Vero meant so much to Joe and I. We had such wonderful trips together filled with laughter and exploration. Vero was the busy bee while Jon was the laid back beetle taking it all in. The loss of Jon leaves a huge hole in my heart. I will love and miss Jon and Vero forever.

We have lost a great friend in Jon Danforth. We have known Jon and his wife Vero for about 30 years. As the soccer parents to two boys who loved soccer, we would see them every weekend, more than any other extended family members. Then high school soccer, and yes a couple of the college soccer games as well. Still remember those away travel soccer games, Jon was always the guy who would find that hidden quaint little town nearby that we could go visit after the games. And did he have stacks of street maps in his car from all the surrounding states, so he was our street map aficionado, before Mapquest or Google map.
We have become close friends over the years, that even after our own sons went to different universities, we still made plans to get together for dinners, travel to different places, Canada, Virgin Islands, Mexico, Iceland, Italy, France of course where Vero would show us all her favorite places. And Jon was always this avid traveler that knew all the trivial stuff about the locality even before Google was even in existence. He loved reading books!!!
We missed them when they moved from McLean, then to Arlington, VA and eventually Florida, where we went to visit them first at their condo, and then their new home which they loved, and met their friends there.
Jon was always the friend who always remembered our birthdays, and sadly in mid-December we got his last email sending me his birthday wishes, and how he was looking forward for his grandchildren to come and visit with him.
Jon was always the gentleman with the good-natured, convivial, pleasant, and always cheerful personality. Together, Jon and Vero, with her dynamic personality they really were the best friends we could have had.
We want to celebrate his life, both their lives, and at the same time we want to tell his son Nathan, his daughter-in-law Anna, his grandchildren, and all the extended family, how much we will miss Jon. May his memory live in your hearts.
Rest in Peace, Jon
