Obituary of Robert L Galpin

Robert L. “Bob” Galpin, of Gulfport, FL; age 80 has joined our Lord in Heaven.  He passed peacefully last Saturday evening, 11/16/19.   He was originally from Aurora, Ill and attended Marmion Military Academy. While at Marmion, he achieved the rank of Cadet Lieutenant and began his lifelong love of basketball where he played guard.

Bob’s first job was at the Northern Ill Gas Company.  Not satisfied to sit behind a desk, he attended night school, obtained an HVAC certificate and eventually moved his family out West to Arizona.  There, he began work as a Heating & A/C Service Technician and Independent Contractor.  He later began making hand crafted fiberglass covers for microwave towers (one was on the Sears Tower in Chicago).  Bob lived in Illinois, Arizona, California, Baja California (Mexico) and Florida.

Bob enjoyed roller-skating, camping, playing cards, bowling, sailing and traveling. But he really loved his motorcycle and going on rides with Carole, his wife of 58 years.

Although Bob never went to college, he never stopped learning. He loved meeting new people and was never too busy to give you a hand – many called him Mr. Fix-It.

Bob, a faithful servant and life-long Catholic, attended church daily and always made time for others.

He is survived by his 3 children: Steve (his wife Jana), Jean and Brian, their Mother Carole, and Bob’s sister Lynn (and her son, Al). Bob had 4 grandchildren:  Alexandra, Phillip, Thomas and Tyler along with 1 great grandchild, Oliver.

There will be a funeral mass at the Holy Name of Jesus Church in Gulfport, Thursday, December 5th at 11:00am.
