Obituary of Arthur James Kelly
A small celebration of life for Arthur “Art” James Kelly, 70, of Gulfport, Florida will be held on Friday, June 7, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Denison University Slayter Hall (3rd Floor), 200 Ridge Rd., Granville, Ohio 43023.
Art, beloved husband to the late Frances “Fran” O’Hara Kelly, died unexpectedly Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at his home in Gulfport, Florida. He was born in Monroe, Louisiana on July 4, 1948 to the late Ernest Andrew Kelly and Winifred June (Rhodes) Kelly.
Art, a Vietnam veteran, was a Program Manager/Systems Architect with NCR with 20+ years of service. While at NCR, Art managed teams that were responsible for the technical execution on complex IT initiatives in the financial services arena. Art treasured family and friends most and loved spending time on the Golf course. Art had many hobbies, that included, but was not limited to travel, photography, fishing and had impressively obtained a black belt in Tae Kwon Do. More recently enjoyed spending time with his beloved grandchildren. Since moving to Gulfport, he became active in numerous organizations, but recently enjoyed volunteering with SCORE that was dedicated to helping small businesses get off the ground via education and mentorship. Art was a graduate of Louisiana State University and obtained a bachelor’s degree in political science; Geaux Tigers!
Surviving are his two children Alicia Marie Kelly Arzate and her husband Miguel Arzate of Dublin, Ohio and Sherri Anne Kelly of Atlanta, Georgia; brothers Gerald “Jerry” Andrew Kelly and Ernest Raymond “Ray” Kelly of Monroe, Louisiana; grandchildren Zachary Joseph Arzate and Sloan Frances Arzate; special friend Patricia Farrell; in addition to many nieces, nephews, in-laws and extended family within the Kelly and O’Hara families, as well as a host of loving longtime friends -- all of whom had the pleasure of enjoying his unique fun loving personality as well as his weird, mildly inappropriate and (sometimes) witty jokes.
In addition to his parents and wife, Art was preceded in death by his sister Sandra Rogers.
